A Phenomenological Study on Nurses' Experience of Near Miss in Medication Administration

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe nurses' experience of near misses in medication errors.
Methods:Data were collected from April, 3 to October 30, 2019 through in-depth interviews with nine nurses who had workedin hospitals. Data was analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological methodology.

Results: The three themes thatemerged from the analysis were: Shameful things to hide, Inevitable matter to happen, and Step to move forward.

Conclusion: The result has shown that nurses' experience of near misses in medication administration has happenednot only because of individual matters but also institutional problems. Therefore, to improve the situation and preventserious medication errors for nurses, both, individual and institutional problems need to be assessed, analyzed andchange.
